WEAC Region 6 President Mark Lindsey thanked and congratulated all of the Region 6 members and potential members who voted and worked to help their colleagues vote in the overwhelmingly successful November 4-24 union recertification elections.
Throughout Region 6, all but three of the locals that participated in recertification elections prevailed by large margins. The Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission (WERC) released the voting results on November 24, and the results for Region 6 and the entire state can be found on the WERC website.
Lindsey said this recertification election victory is one more example of how we win when we work together and combine our strengths. The results send a clear message to school boards and communities that educators, through the union, are the voice for students and schools.
In an article in the Janesville Gazette, Janesville Education Association President Dave Groth pointed out that JEA’s recertification victory is also a victory for Janesville’s students.
“Our local teachers are encouraged and energized as a result of our success, and we will continue to stand up for our students, schools and profession,” Groth said.
The recertified unions are the designated bargaining agents for the employees in the district. School districts are required to negotiate over base wages with all certified unions.
