More than 200 WEAC Region 6 and Madison Teachers Inc. members and their guests attended the joint Region 6/MTI Gubernatorial Candidate Education Issues Forum on Sunday, May 6, at James Madison Memorial High School in Madison.
Eight candidates for governor answered questions from Region 6 and MTI members. Forum participants included Tony, Evers, Matt Flynn, Andy Gronik, Mike McCabe, Mahlon Mitchell, Kelda Roys, Paul Soglin, and Kathleen Vinehout. Each candidate made opening and closing statements, and answered questions about the achievement gap, school safety, school funding, collective bargaining rights, and the privatization of public education.
DPI Superintendent Tony Evers has drawn much media attention for remarks he originally made during the Region 6/MTI Forum, calling for turnover of the UW System Board of Regents.
